Justin Bieber Charged in Graffiti Incident in Brazil

Justin Bieber has once again stepped in a bit of trouble while on his wild world tour.

Following a bad trip to the U.K. in March and controversy in Amsterdam in April, the singer is in Brazil, where police are charging him for “defacing a building or urban monument by graffiti or other means,” according to a statement from cops in Rio de Janeiro.

Bieber, 19, apparently had permission from the city to paint on a graffiti wall in Rio’s Olympic Village, the Morro do Vidigal. But according to RollingStone.com, he chose to tag a wall on a nearby hotel to avoid his local fans.

“Authorization granted by the city did not extend to other locations,” the statement from police says.

The punishment for defacing a building in Brazil could be a fine or up to one year in prison, though police called the pop star’s graffiti a minor offense.

A rep for Bieber did not respond to requests for comment.

Adds a source, “It must have been some misunderstanding. He was lead to believe it was fine.”

According to Bieber’s Facebook page, he’s on his way to Argentina next, where he’s scheduled to perform in Cordoba and Buenos Aires.
