Dorsey is originally from coal mining country. He grew up in Charleston, West Virginia, and dreamed of being a baseball player before “high school fate derailed those plans and landed him on the stage, where he fell in love with a new dream,” according to his website.

With the encouragement of his family – which includes his mother, father, brother and step-parents – Dorsey moved from West Virginia to New York City, where he attended the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts, before packing up and moving to Los Angeles.

Dorsey met Rivera four years ago after he moved to L.A., and they remained friends until their friendship blossomed into a romance after Rivera’s engagement to rapper Big Sean ended just three months ago.
