Kate Moss Gets a Yellow Pixie for Surreal Alexander McQueen Campaign

Kate Moss just celebrated the big four-oh, but somehow we’re not surprised to see that the supermodel is busier than ever, booking one magazine cover and ad campaign after another. Her latest, for Alexander McQueen, has her almost unrecognizable, wearing a technicolor-hued, close-cropped do gelled back. Her makeup is metallic and angular, while her outfits are fierce, sporty and skin baring — giving us a post-apocalyptic warrior princess vibe.

In the campaign video below, shot (like the ads) by photographer Steven Klein, the strings, church bells, heavy breathing and shot-through-the-crosshairs lenswork all give an encroaching sense of dread as the camera follows Moss through darkened streets and isolated rooms. But though the ads are futuristic and dark, the entire collection is inspired by the early 20th century and is actually quite exuberant and athletic — an unexpected juxtaposition that speaks to the brilliant minds behind the line. Though we’d love to know what the tiny Moss replica doll is supposed to signify. Any ideas?
