Johnny Depp: My Teen Daughter Doesn’t Think I’m That Cool

We think he’d be the coolest dad in the world, but Johnny Depp admits that his teenage daughter, Lily-Rose, doesn’t think he’s all that.

The Transcendence star talked to Ellen DeGeneres on Friday and admitted that while he is “calmer” since he turned 50 and is a “pretty laid-back” dad, there are days when he just can’t do anything right as far as his daughter (who turns 15 in May) is concerned.

“She’s a sharp kid, very sophisticated, super intelligent and, uh, scary,” he says of his oldest child with ex-girlfriend Vanessa Paradis.

He tried to explain why. “All that cool stuff is going on that 15-year-old girls …” he said, gesticulating wildly. “All that stuff. So she could be the sweetest thing in the world, which most of the time she is, and suddenly I’m in trouble for something.”

Depp, who recently celebrated his engagement to Amber Heard, 27, told DeGeneres that Lily-Rose and his son, Jack, who just turned 12, are “beyond” smarter than their old man.

“You come home and my daughter is sitting around doing her homework. ‘Oh what are you reading, baby?’ It’s the Odyssey by Homer. She starts asking me questions and you’re flummoxed, befuddled … what happened to Dr. Seuss?”
