George Clooney’s Engagement Confirmed by Amal Alamuddin’s Law Firm

The news is officially out. After PEOPLE exclusively confirmed that George Clooney was off the market, his fiancée, human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, was congratulated by her law firm.

“The barristers and staff of Doughty Street Chambers offer their best wishes and congratulations to Ms. Amal Alamuddin, a member of Chambers, and Mr. George Clooney on their engagement to be married,” the firm said in a statement on Monday.

Alamuddin, 36, joined the firm in 2010 and later became a member of its international law team. The chief executive of the firm, Robin Jackson, added his personal congrats as well.

“She brings a bright light to everything she is involved in,” he said. “And I am so delighted at her happy news.”

Clooney’s mother, Nina, was reportedly excited over her son’s engagement as well. “‘You can say I’m extremely happy, Amal’s a lovely girl,'” she told the U.K.’s Daily Mail. “We weren’t at all surprised when they told us they were engaged, and we couldn’t be happier for them.”

While a rep for Clooney, 52, has yet to confirm the engagement, a source close to the situation says the actor and Alamuddin are just trying to keep things “very low-key.”

“I think it’s like they want the people they love to know that this is real,” the source says. “That they plan on being together forever.”
