From Rihanna’s Nipple Pasties to Miley Cyrus’s … Everything, the amfAR Gala Dress Code Appeared to Be ‘Not Dressed’

Our dress code to the super star-studded amfAR Inspiration Gala in L.A. probably got lost in the mail, which is why we didn’t get a chance to check out the wardrobe instructions. But if these stars’ outfits are any indication, the dress code was “Creative Skin-Baring,” and they got the message loud and clear. In fact, it appeared they were all in competition to outdo one another in that arena.

Both Rihanna and Miley Cyrus — no strangers to showing skin in new and unusual ways — went for “most eye-popping” in outfits by the night’s honoree, Tom Ford. Of course, for both of these envelope-pushing stars, this was like wearing a tee and jeans, but a pastie-accented gown and a BDSM-inspired onesie are still considered “advanced dressing” for the rest of us. If anyone could pull it off, it’s the ladies who brought us The Naked Dress and The Naked Wrecking Ball, but whose finished look did you prefer: Rihanna’s boudoir-inspired thigh-highs and silvery sandals or Miley’s relatively simple styling?

Other stars at the party also showed up in various stages of deshabillé. Beth Behrs chose a lacy gown with sheer panels at her abs and down her back, plus swaths of skin revealed beneath the pattern (she finished her look with finger waves and a Rodo clutch). Gwyneth Paltrow chose a relatively demure Tom Ford suit with a plunging flash of sternum that got another hit of sexiness from the open panel at the back. And Alessandra Ambrosio did her very Alessandra Ambrosio thing in a Zuhair Murad number with croc-embossed panels flanking wide acres of sheer-covered skin (if she is wearing any undies, they are working overtime to stay in place).
