Miley Cyrus Opens Up About Her Split with Liam Hemsworth

In the month since Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth ended their engagement, the singer has talked a lot about her new album, Bangerz, but very little about her breakup.

Until now.

“I think people spend more time actually thinking about it than I really do,” the “Wrecking Ball” singer says on Friday’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “I just believe when a chapter is done, you have to close it and start that new one. That’s kind of where I am right now.”

Continues Cyrus: “I felt like people have really focused on my music right now when I’ve needed them to … that’s the only thing I worried about. I didn’t want it to make me sacrifice what I’ve been working for, for just the attention to be on [my breakup]”.

In fact, Cyrus, 20, tells DeGeneres that she wants her music to speak for her and that the songs from Bangerz chronicle her up-and-down relationship with Hemsworth, 23, to whom she became engaged in 2012.

“Starting with ‘Adore You’ and ending with ‘Someone Else,’ I feel like you can really find like this arc of growth,” the pop princess says. “This really is like telling a story. I think I knew more intuitively where my life was going than I actually thought I did at the time.”

Hemsworth, who is currently filming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay with Jennifer Lawrence, has yet to speak publicly about the breakup but was spotted in a passionate lip-lock with Mexican actress and singer Eiza Gonzalez just days after it was announced that he and Cyrus had called it quits.

DeGeneres does take time to tease Cyrus a bit, saying, “So the last time you were here [in November 2012], I threw you an engagement party.”

“Do you want your money back?” Cyrus asks.

“I sent you [strippers]”, DeGeneres notes.

“I should have kept one of those dude’s numbers,” Cyrus quips
