Romantic Holidays in Switzerland!

If you live in India, chances are you might not have been to Switzerland, but you’ve certainly seen a lot of it in Bollywood movies. For many years now, Switzerland has been portrayed to us in films and books and music as the ultimate destination for newlyweds and couples in love, and there is much truth in this notion. With its beautiful mountains, secluded resorts and temperate climate, it’s no surprise that so many couples, both young and old, opt for Switzerland travel as a means of spending some quality time with one another. Here are three essential romantic destinations in Switzerland to visit with your better half.

• Arosa
One of Switzerland’s more secluded ski resorts, Arosa is located in the Plessur district of Graubunden. With large spreads of forested land, as well as over fifty kilometres of snow laden slopes, Arosa attracts several tourists in both the summer and the winter, but not so many as the more popular ski resorts, such as St. Moritz. This makes it an ideal getaway for couples looking to get away from the city. Though, if skiing or going hiking with your better half doesn’t sound like fun, plan your trip for the summer, when the vibes are more laidback.

• The Goms Valley
What makes the Goms Valley, or the Goms district, in the state of Valais, Switzerland is that it has a population of only about five thousand people spread over an area of about five hundred and fifty square kilometres. In Goms, couples will find not only the peace and quiet they desire, but also several small, cosy residential hotels from where they can look out onto the dynamic scenery of the entire Goms Valley. Like a lot of the Swiss countryside, Goms is a prime destination for skiers during the winter, but turns to agriculture in summer, when the weather is less harsh.

• Lucerne
When travelling to Switzerland, chances are you will probably pass by, or even spend some time in the city of Zurich, Switzerland’s busiest metropolis. If so, the city of Lucerne is not more than a few hours’ journey away. Located on the banks of Lake Lucerne, and in the shadows of Rigi and Mount Pliatus, the landscape of Lucerne is truly breath-taking. While it isn’t quite so secluded as some other locations mentioned on this list, it is one of the most convenient getaways from couples in Switzerland. Don’t forget to check out the old Chapel Bridge and Wasserturm on your visit. Considered to be one of the most photographed bridges in the world, the Chapel Bridge (or Kapellbrucke), is an architectural marvel dating back to the 14th Century.

If it’s romantic holidays you’re looking for, Switzerland has enough opportunities for them, and not just around time of Valentine’s Day. Whether you and your partner are planning a weekend trip, an extended stay or even a quick one day jaunt, the Swiss landscape won’t disappoint your romantic natures. The atmosphere is calm, the weather is nice and the hotels are comfy, making for the perfect romantic setting.
