Is Make Up Really Necessary to Look Good?

We live in a superficial world that is obsessed with appearance. No matter how much we criticize this shallowness, reality is far from getting changed. Women are more prone to be judged on the basis of their looks than anything else.  Of course, this has propelled a mad rush for cosmetics and make up.  But, is make up really that important?

Some hardcore feminists argue against make up citing it as another tool of the male chauvinism.  On the other hand, some women support make up as the extension of their feminine sexuality.  So, there are claims and counter claims making the situation confusing for most women.

First, it can’t be denied that all women has tried make up in their life. Amusingly, more young girls are taking up this as a route to gain confidence. It is difficult to generalize any age category, but the obsession is present everywhere.  This fixation has also crossed geographical boundaries.  In fact, a multi-billion dollar industry depends on this demand.

According to some studies, there are some certain benefits of make up on women. Remember that these are not my views on the subject. Some of these benefits are as follows:

Make up Boosts Confidence:

It is speculated that make up boosts confidence in women. Actually this could be more psychological in nature. Woman desire to look beautiful, and make up provides assurance to some extent. So, I see no harm in utilizing make up to boost any person’s confidence.

 Make Up can Lift Mood:

Many studies point out towards this fact. May be this is something to do with looking good. Or, it could be a repressed desire for a compliment from the opposite sex. It could be a way to divert attention from the problem. So, if you’ve a bad day, apply some make up.

Make up Helps in Career:

Don’t be so surprised. Many studies suggest that woman with makeup are more likely to get the job in comparison with a woman with no makeup. There is no mention of qualifications, passion or anything else that are required to get a job.  But, there could be a few instances where women have to deal with a superficial fellow.

However, there are few jobs where makeup is essential. These jobs rely extensively on presentation. So, I don’t find anything wrong in their recruitment process.

Make Up Helps in Dating:

Whether men like women with make up or not is a debatable issue.  Internet is flooded with posts discussing this issue. I have also encountered men claiming that they prefer a no-makeup look.  It’s better if you consult your spouse for further clarification.

I personally believe that there exists a sweet spot between no makeup and all makeup. Many women go overboard, thereby ruining their appearance. Do it gently. You can also take professional help.
