How To Work Out What Colours Suit You

A woman (or man) who understands how to wear colours not only looks interesting but also more confident and self-assured. Colour has the ability to make you look many different ways. If you want to look taller, slimmer, healthier. Colour is the key.

Here we have compiled a step by step guide to help you determine what colour tone you are and what will suit you.

Firstly, from in your wardrobe pick out the clothes you wear most often and pile them into different colour shades. Eg. blue, red, green etc. Regardless of the style of the clothes, hold them upto your face and see what the colour does for you. Does it bring out the colour in your eyes? Does it make you look radiant? Does it make your complexion flat? Once you have the shades that suit you best you can now find out what tone section you belong to.

Cool tones – These people are most likely to have alabaster white or olive skin. Their eyes have a dark rim around the iris or may be a mid to dark brown. They definitely do not have auburn hair or hazel eyes. The colours that suit you are black which can be worn right up to the neck, dark and soft grey, navy which can be made more youthful with emerald greens or turquoise colours, hot pink and strong purples. DO NOT choose olive greens, apricot or beige.

Warm tones – These people often have red in their hair. From a rich brown right through to ginger and strawberry blondes. Their skin may be a little sallow or freckly and their eyes are sometimes pale blue, brown, dull green or hazel. Colours that suit this tone definitely suit autumnal shades such as olive greens, mustard yellows and warm rich browns. Never wear black or navy they will just wash you out.

Mid Tones – People with this tone can look a little washed out without make-up on or may have a slight blue undertone to their skin. On the other hand, they may have a very peaches and cream complexion. Their eyes are usually green or blue. Their colours are muted brights such as wisteria purple, soft blues and mid greens. Avoid black, dirty looking greens and very cold bright colours. If you follow these basic colour concepts you are sure to look and feel more alive and you will start to see a difference. People will comment on how good you look. You will be able to save money and you will be free of all those annoying items that don’t go with anything.
