Foods to Avoid If You Have Oily Skin

1. Fatty Meat

Unfortunately, the fatty meat we mean here happen to be the very delicious ones like bacon, sausage, beef and lambs. Although very tasty, they also come with rich saturated fat content which is linked to obesity, diabetes, inflammation and heart disease. There are certain people who consume much of these meaty foods and less of the anti-inflammatory foods like tuna, salmon, mackerel and other fishes from cold waters.

2. Enriched Flour

These foods are formed via a process wherein whole grain is stripped off most of its fiber and nutrient content. This results in enriched cereals, breads, pasta and baked goods that have higher glycemic index or impact on blood sugar, compared to whole grains. Investigative research shows that having a low glycemic diet can reduce acne occurrence. That’s because hormone levels are seen to have improved, which in turn, leads to decrease in production of oil. Go for whole grains like oats, barley and brown rice.

3. Salty Foods for Snacks

The common required dose of daily sodium is 1,500 mg or roughly less than one teaspoon of table salt. As per Perricone, a diet that’s high in sodium poses risks to your skin’s health because it increases inflammation. The likes of crackers, french fries and potatoes contain trans-fats which makes the effects oily skin worse. 4. Added Sugars

These added sugars come in the likes of cane sugar, corn syrup, honey, dextrose and maltose. While they may add a flavor that’s oh so sweet, they also come with many calories and just very few nutrients. Much like the enriched flour, it has a high glycemic index and can disturb the natural balance of hormone levels and blood sugar. This results in oil production increase and greater acne risk.

Limit your intake of food and drinks that’s high in added sugars. These are your favorite soft drinks, cakes, pastries, pies, frozen desserts, candy, jelly, jam and pancake syrup. Replace them with more intake of vegetables and fresh fruits which all come with great benefits for your blood sugar as well as skin and health overall.
