Colors Trends for Spring 2014

This season, many designers are giving a modern touch to the traditional spring palette by combining soft pastels with bright shades to create a colorful equilibrium. Read on to find out which color trends this year will help enhance your beauty.

Starting with the pastels, we have placid blue, which reminds us of a tranquil sky, bringing calmness to your look. Then we have the violet tulip, which is decidedly more romantic and evokes wistful nostalgia. Another vintage pastel tinge to try out this season is the luscious shade of hemlock. You can pair this beautiful pastel green with a bolder color like red for a trendy look; or you can combine it with another pastel hue like violet tulip to give you a light breezy look.

Pastel colors, or “cold colors” as they are called, are best suited for summer-type people with light colored hair, colored eyes and pale skin. However, winter-type people, with black/dark-brown hair and eyes and pale skin can also experiment with these colors to get a trendy look.

This spring, you can also go for some neutral shades like sand, that conjures images of the beach and the carefree days of summer; or paloma which reminds us of the color of stones. These colors are interesting enough to be worn alone or combined with any bright color for sophisticated poise. Even just combining these two neutral shades can be very nice. Sand is more suitable for summer-types while paloma can complement the look of winter-type people.

The perfect spring look can be completed with a dash of bright colors like cayenne, a high-pitched red to add fire to your look; freesia to deepen the sensation of first rays of spring sunshine; or celosia orange to enhance the warmth and energy of the season. All these colors can be worn with pastels and neutral colors to create a balanced look.

The spring palette cannot be complete without radiant orchid, which happens to be the color of the year, and dazzling blue, a peppy shade of cobalt. These vivid colors also pair well with either neutrals or pastels. If you want to create the ultimate blue sky look, wear a combination of dazzling blue and placid blue. We know finding the perfect color to wear is nothing less than alchemy; but using this article as a guide, you can discover colors that look best on you.
