Many great poets have talked about the beauty, culture and tradition of this wonderful place.

Here are some of the most spectacular places in Rhodos for you to visit. Make sure you include them in your places-to-visit list when you’re planning on your journey.

Petaloudes – the valley of butterflies

Petaloudes is a beautiful town in Rhodos set approximately 5 kilometers away from the southeastern village of Theologos. This town is popularly known by the name the Valley of Butterflies. Well, if you are wondering whether this name is literal or figurative, all you need to do is visit this place during the month of August. This is the time when thousands of butterflies of the species Quadripunctaria Poda (belonging to the genus Panaxia) overwhelm the entire valley for reproduction. It is indeed a mesmerizing sight and you will not get to see this in any other place. Make sure that you visit the beautiful island of Petaloudes if you wish to see this wonderful sight.

The ancient city of Ialysos

Ialysos is one of the ancient cities of Rhodos with a long history dating back to 3000 BC. You can still find remains of ancient settlements and cemeteries that come from the Mycenaean-Minoan period. This place would be the perfect holiday destination for travelers who are into the study of history and archaeology. If you wish to see some of the oldest building remains, pay a visit to the hill of Filerimos. The name of the hill itself comes from the Byzantine era. The hill was used as a place of worship and also as a military strongpoint during its long winding history. You can enjoy amazing views from this part of the island as well. Make sure Ialysos is on your places-to-visit list if you wish to be at a place where you can enjoy your vacation as well as increase your knowledge.

Epta Piges – the Seven Springs

Epta Piges is the Greek for Seven Springs. Well, that is exactly what you are going to find in this beautiful location. This village is situated 30 km away from the city of Rhodos. It is surrounded with trickling streams and pine trees. You will have to travel over several rustic bridges to get to the center of this amazing village. There are streams flowing through tunnels where visitors can walk across or explore. You can sight peacocks throughout this area. The taverna in Epta Piges offers relaxation and peace for those who come seeking for it.
