Magical French Polynesia – Bora Bora

Tahiti and Bora Bora are perhaps the most visited tourist attractions in the French Polynesia. The sheer splendour of the seascape and unparalled natural beauty is just a part of the attraction. The local tradition, way of life and cultural bonanza are the real draws.

Bora Bora today is not just a popular tour attraction with families and honeymooning couples, it is considered as an auspicious destination for arranging wedding parties. There are so many young people who travel from different parts of the world to come and tie the knot here.

The entire lagoon-scape is covered with green tropical slopes and valleys. The coastline is bordered with palm trees and sheer white sand; that gently meet the deep blue sea waters. The coral gardens beneath the water are a complete world with sparkling and colored fishes, Manta rays and exotic marine life. Traditional thatched villas, fancy resorts and luxury spas are just a part of Bora Bora. The wilderness beyond is enveloped in fragrant aromas of hibiscus and a variety of tropical blooms.

The ancient name for the island was Pora Pora – that in local language literally translates to ‘first born’. Legend has it that this was the first island to be pulled out from the seas by the local deity Taaroa.  It was C[attain Cook who discovered this paradise when on a marine expedition. He misunderstood the term Pora Pora and called the island – Bora Bora. And ever since the name has stuck!

Water Sports in Bora Bora

Enjoy water sports when sightseeing in Bora Bora. Enjoy Banana Boat rides, Jet skiing, surfing, snorkelling, diving, para sailing, water scooters and deep sea fishing. If you aren’t that adventurous you could opt for something less dangerous yet super exciting. Hop on to a glass bottom boat that sails over multi-colored coral gardens so you can see myriad fish and marine life through crystal waters. Don’t forget to pay a visit to the Musée de la Marine. Enjoy the collection of handmade boats on display. It is quite an experience.
