3 Top Museums in Rome

Rome is the city of choice for many discerning travellers every year, and many of them stay in a Rome design hotel. There are some excellent ones to be found, and many of them provide easy access to at least one of the many museums the city has to offer.

If you want to see another side to the city, make sure you look at the following possibilities, among others. With lots to see and learn while you are in the capital, pay a visit to at least one of these venues.

The Capitoline Museums

Many people are aware of these museums and they provide an excellent insight into a range of the city’s delights. They focus on art but also on the archaeological nature of the city. In many cases you may even be able to walk from your Rome design hotel to visit these fascinating museums. As the name would suggest, there are several venues, all located atop the Capitoline Hill in the city. The buildings – designed by Michelangelo – sit around a piazza, making it easy to move from one to the next.

The National Museum

If your Rome design hotel happens to be close to this museum, make sure you pay it a visit. There is a good chance you will be close by because, as with the Capitoline Museums, it is fairly central and spread over several buildings. Here though, the buildings are further apart. Among them you will find the Baths of Diocletian, the Palazzo Altemps and the Crypta Balbi. The Palazzo Massimo alle Terme has four floors of delights to explore. If you want to see every aspect of the National Museum you should be prepared to spend more than one day doing so.

The Museum of Roman Civilisation

This museum is more about the civilisation that has grown up around the city – more specifically in ancient time. Examining some of the exhibits here will shed new light on just how much times have changed. As you might imagine, the various emperors feature heavily here, with names like Julius Caesar and Augustus among others. There is also a large themed section featuring aspects of ancient life here, including medicine, schools and libraries.

As you can see it is well worth visiting some of the many museums of Rome. Design hotel locations will place you right in the centre of the action so it will never be hard to get out and explore.
