Nail Care: Tea Bag Method To Repair A Broken Nail

There is nothing worse than breaking a nail, but when the nail decides it wants to break at the edge of your thumbnail, then in my personal opinion, it’s catastrophic. I don’t understand why my darn thumbs always like to break at that point. I was facing the dilemma should I just clip it off and have my sensitive skin fear the elements such as bacteria and disease to permeate through it’s unprotected armor, or should I attempt to fix this until it grows out. Of course I did the latter of the two.

Last year, which I believe it was the beginning of Spring as well; am I noting a pattern here?, I googled how to fix a broken nail and stumbled upon the tea bag method. I must admit I did a piss poor job the first time around, but this time, I did things a little bit different and I’m extremely happy with my results.

Here are the materials you will need to fix your broken nail:

• A broken fingernail
• A empty teabag
• Nail polish remover
• Makeup brush or anything you normally use to clean around your nails after you give yourself a manicure. You will need this to take off the residual glue that’s loitering around.
• Crazy Glue
• Nail File
• Cuticle Clippers
• Ridge Filler
• Base Coat
• A neutral shade of nail polish

Step 1: Stop crying, it will get better, I promise.
Step 2: Place the entire tea bag over your finger. Hold it snugly in place and put a drop or two of crazy glue on it.
Step 3: Be patient and let it dry. DON’T TOUCH IT. Do you really need your fingers permanently affixed to your broken nail? I think NOT!
Step 4: Gently brush the nail file along the top and side of your nails to remove the excess bag. Clip the extra bag that’s sitting around your cuticle area with your cuticle clipper. If you don’t own one of these little contraptions, a small pair of scissors will work just fine. It’s okay if you clip away a lot from that area.
Step 5: Put on two (2) to three (3) coats of ridge filler and let it dry.
Step 6: Apply base coat and the color of your choice.

I would highly recommend you use a color you don’t mind leaving on your nails for a while. The reason for this is you’re not really going to want to change the polish on that nail, because the acetone will mess with the crazy glue. I don’t want you to spontaneous com-bust.
