Foods for Great Hair

We would all love to have gorgeous long hair. In fact, this is half the reason why shampoo and conditioner manufacturers will always be in business. But using surface conditioning products like shampoos and conditioners will not always work. You need the best nutrition, exercise and lifestyle to improve the health of the hair follicle as well. We cannot cover all these aspects in this article but we can definitely tell you about five foods which can boost hair health almost overnight.

Foods for better hair

Fish – Deep-sea fish like salmon and mackerel contain large amounts of Omega-3 fatty acids that are invaluable for improving skin and hair health. Fish is also rich in protein and Vitamin D, which can also improve hair strength and growth rate. Fish oil capsules are an easier alternative and vegetarians can snack down on avocado, pumpkin seeds and walnuts which contain the same fatty acids along with vitamins and minerals.

Green leafy veggies – These are always good for health and specifically good for long thick hair. Vegetables like broccoli, Swiss chard, etc contain large amounts of essential vitamins and minerals along with proteins which can improve hair health and moisturize it as well.

Nuts – Brazil nuts, almonds, walnuts, cashews, pecans and pistachios are probably the best for hair health. They contain a large amount of selenium, alpha-linoleic acids, and zinc which are necessary to strengthen the hair follicle. They can also reduce hair shedding and improve the overall hair texture making it smooth and shiny.

Greek yoghurt – Yoghurt is filled with probiotic bacteria that are extremely beneficial to the body. Greek yoghurt is better as it is filled with delicious hair beneficial protein, vitamins like B5 and vitamin D. if you don’t like the taste of Greek yoghurt, you can always have cottage cheese, low fat skim milk and cheese as healthy substitutes.

Antioxidants – Fresh fruits like kiwis, strawberries and blueberries are particularly rich in vitamin C and antioxidants which can reduce free radical damage. Antioxidants also improve blood circulation in and around the hair follicles in the scalp which can boost hair health. Nutritionists also recommend an increased intake of sweet potato, and tomatoes which act in the same way.

Of course, there are many other food items that work just as well but you should know that an improved diet means better overall health. Eat well, exercise moderately and reduce your stress levels to get gorgeous long hair in a few months time.
