Finding The Colors That Look Best On You

Looking great has more to do than the style of clothes you wear or the jewelry you purchase. Building a wardrobe that enhances your skin’s natural healthy glow can make you look and feel good. You may even be able to reduce the amount of makeup you wear. Staying true to the shades that flatter you will help make wardrobe decisions easier.

The first thing you need to do is determine if your skin tone is in the cool or warm category. The easiest way to do this is with the color test. Remove all makeup and put on a white t-shirt. Pull your hair back and wear a white headband. The key is so you can focus on your skin’s natural hue. Gather different solid colored scarves, shirts, fabric scraps, and towels. Sit in front of a mirror and drape the fabrics one at a time around your shoulders. Cooler complexions will glow underneath blue, purple, green, and grey. Warm complexions will look attractive next to orange, yellow, red and brown. Now, this is not to say that “cool” skin will not look good with “warm” hues or vice versa. The key is to find the shade that is most flattering. For example, a warm color like red will have a shade with a blue undertone, making it suitable for cooler complexions.

Now that you have determined your “color temperature,” you can further focus your type into “seasons.”

Spring – Your hair will be light to medium dark brown, red, or blonde with warm highlights. Your eyes are either blue, green, or grey. You will look best in bright and vibrant hues.

Summer – Your hair will be ash blond or ash brown. Your eyes are blue, grey, or turquoise. You will look best in smoky colors.

Fall – Your hair is red, light to dark brown or dark blonde with highlights. Your eyes are hazel, green, or brown. Rich and earthy shades are most flattering.

Winter – Your hair is dark brown to black with no highlights, and your eyes are dark brown, dark blue, or blue grey. True and sharp shades will look great on you.

Finding your colors is just the first step in building your personal style. While creating a whole new wardrobe from scratch may take some time, you can save money by incorporating accessories in your custom palette. Hats and scarves keep them near your face, which will instantly brighten up your look! Earrings and necklaces can also give your complexion a healthy glow.
