Will there be season 5 of Lucifer series?

Lucifer season four came out on Netflix on May 8 with a total of 10 episodes dropped all at once. Fans of the Tom Ellis show – known as Lucifans – were delighted by the return. Season four was not a guarantee this time last year after FOX cancelled the series before Netflix saved it. Many Lucifer fans have consumed the show whole and want to know about a possible fifth series.

Will there be another series of Lucifer?

The short answer is that we just don’t know at this stage because it’s too early to say either way.

Netflix dropped Lucifer season four on May, 8 and will be looking at viewing figures before making a decision.

The streaming platform is notoriously secretive about its ratings but has previously stated it considers a show or film watched if 70 percent is completed.

So if enough fans watch at least seven of the 10 episodes, we could see another season.

Actor Ellis is also keen for another season, telling Collier in a recent interview: “I feel like we haven’t finished telling our story yet, without giving too many spoilers away.”

He continued: “With any show you could ultimately finish at the end of any season, and you’re either left with a massive cliffhanger and people are left unsatisfied, or you get the opportunity to tell your story until the end.

“I think that we would all love to come back and do a season 5. We’ll just have to see what Netflix says.”

Maze star Lesley-Ann Brandt recently spoke about the future of the show, telling MEA Worldwide: “Our trailer has got four million views, which is crazy and it was humbling. I hope so (that there is season five) as there is so much story that we could tell, and the way we ended the season, it was on a massive cliffhanger.

“So, I just don’t see how we don’t have a season five.”

Interestingly, season four of Lucifer was dropped on a Wednesday rather than on a Friday – which is usually when Netflix releases its big Originals.

Lucifer may have been released mid-week because it was previously a FOX show that was picked up by Netflix rather than being a true Original from the streamer.

Sadly, there is no data available to show whether dropping a show at a certain point in the week has an impact on the viewing figures.

But given the strong worldwide fanbase, Lucifer is in good stead and could be returning.

Any decision from Netflix is likely to be made in the next few months.

If Lucifer does get the green light, season five could be out at in May 2020 at the earliest with another 10 episodes.

The Netflix release date as always will be dependent on if and when Lucifer gets the go-ahead.

Season five is most likely to be dropped all at once as per Netflix Originals.
