How Does The Weather Impact Our Eating Habits?

With the hot weekends it’s not just the heat that makes us eat different foods. Companies that sell gourmet products online often see fewer sales during hot weekends as people are out enjoying the sun rather than sitting behind a computer ordering food products. On the other hand the hot weather often brings more sales to supermarkets with people buying more salads, fruits, ice creams, beers, and other simple foods. We hardly ever get a decent summer in England so it’s no wonder that people make the most of it and go all out barbeque crazy! But you don’t just have to stick to the same old hot dogs, burgers, and fruit salad. It is incredibly easy to make your barbeque into a gourmet delight by just adding a few ingredients to your shopping list. Items such as Truffles, Truffle Honey, and Truffle Oil are amongst my favourite ‘all year round’ ingredients as they can be used in such a variety of different dishes.

So what do we eat when it’s cold and rainy? This is what we are all used to. The hot food. The Roasts, Stews, Pies, anything warm that we can get our hands on! This is the majority of the year for us Brits right? This is also the time when a lot of gourmet products are commonly used in our everyday dinners and lunches. But why do we not try to incorporate it all year round? Countries that tend to be sunny and warm all year round such as France and Spain still manage to eat amazing quality food, but why don’t we when we get a cracking summer? It is a question that I have been thinking about for the past month or so. My personal theory is we become lazy in the kitchen during summer as we spend so much time outside enjoying the sun. Other countries are used to the heat so it’s nothing different for them. We love the sun and we love to have friends and family round our houses, kicking back in the garden with a glass of sangria or a beer. It is much easier to have basic food for guest’s right? Well with an extra product you can make sure they remember how great your food was.
