The causes for insomnia can be many, though the most common are what you drink or eat, especially at night. It can be caused by the consumption of alcohol and also by caffeine. It may also get triggered by spicy or heavy foods at dinner time.

Some medicines can also be the cause of insomnia. Stimulants can also be responsible for the lack of sleep, or for having a disturbed sleep. Even certain drugs may be the cause of insomnia. Despite feeling tired, one may fail to sleep because of restlessness, or may fall asleep intermittently for short intervals.

Anxiety, stress, pain and worry are the most common reasons for insomnia. Anybody worried for some reason at bed time is unlikely to sleep undisturbed. Being apprehensive of what is in store for you the next morning is enough to cause a disturbed sleep.
