Holiday Coffee Flavor Guide

While many protest any divergence from their standing order I like to take the opportunity to experience something different. Not all flavors are huge successes, but hopefully with the help of this guide we can help you choose the right flavor for you!

Gingerbread: Gingerbread is one of my favorite flavors and really brings back many wonderful holiday memories. Gingerbread, for those of you who need a refresher, is a sweet flavoring typically containing ginger and honey or molasses. From the gingerbread flavored coffees that I have had they usually do a really great job at replicating the gingerbread flavoring, making it very similar to drinking a gingerbread-man. If you love the taste of gingerbread then of course this is a great match! However, if you only slightly care for it then you may want to steer clear of this type of coffee. These gingerbread flavored coffees are usually very sweet and are overpowering in their flavorings. So if you are looking for that traditional black bitter coffee taste you will most likely be disappointed.

Peppermint: Peppermint is a great seasonal flavoring. We see this flavor in many places around the holidays. While, much like gingerbread, peppermint is a very strong flavoring so you need to be prepared. Much of the time coffee will overpower some of the flavor but not much of it. Again if you enjoy mint flavorings or peppermint flavorings you will fall in love this holiday coffee. Overall this is one of my favorite season holiday drinks.

Blueberry: Personally I do not usually mind strongly flavored coffee’s. Most of the blueberry flavored coffee’s I have tried are no exception and have a string blueberry flavoring. I also like blueberry’s in all of its forms. However, blueberry flavored coffee is one of the most contradicting flavors to coffee that I have ever tried. The bitter coffee contradicts the sweet citrus flavor of the blueberry. Even if you are a huge fan of blueberry’s I would find this coffee very difficult to drink.

Hazelnut: Many times when you wake up in the morning a strongly flavored coffee is not what you want to reach for. You are still waking up while putting your cufflinks on your suit, almost running out the door. Hazelnut is an excellent choice for those mornings where you want a slow wake-up. The hazelnut is a subtle flavor that really enhances the natural coffee flavoring without really overpowering it or taking over the entire drink.

In the end it really comes down to what you feel like drinking on that particular day. You just need to decide if you are in the mood for subtle flavors that will allow you to really taste the natural coffee, or want something that offers a lot more. No matter what your preference put on a fresh pot and enjoy!
