Healthier Eating Options While On Vacation

Even if your family usually eats healthily, going on vacation can make it more difficult to keep up your healthy diet. You’re busy, and it’s impossible to keep up your normal routine. It can seem easier to just eat the junk food that’s most readily available. Many travelers are tired of the extra effort and inconvenience that usually comes along with maintaining healthy diets on vacation.

But for those of you who have been clamoring for healthier options for you and your children while traveling, big corporations are finally starting to grant your wish. Slowly but surely, companies are jumping on the bandwagon of the latest trend to start offering healthier food options, particularly for children. For example, Disney World, the place that every child should visit at least once, has added a multitude of healthier options to their counter service, including fresh fruit and juices, salads, smoothies, and wraps. Restaurants are also picking up on this new trend. Denny’s’ new Fitfare menu offers healthy twists to all of your favorites: omelets, pancakes, burgers, and more. They even have a special omelette for seniors if the grandparents are along for the trip.

There are many points while traveling where it seems that only unhealthy food is available. Food served on the plane, for example, is mostly unhealthy. But now, as an alternative, Delta Airlines has recently introduced a new, healthier menu for their passengers. Similarly, at the hotel you may be tempted by the unhealthy and expensive minibars, or the carb-heavy pancake breakfasts. The Four Seasons hotel has tried to improve on this model by introducing a sophisticated and healthy menu specifically for children, including gluten-free options, farmer’s market produce, and surf-and-turf. Or, if the Four Seasons is a little out of your price range, the Hyatt has also incorporated healthier options in their menu.

And, if you need some snacks for between tourist attractions, Walmart just released their five-year plan to not only stock healthier food, but to make healthier food more affordable for families. They’re doubling the amount of fresh produce that they stock, but also stamp their healthiest options with a “Great for You” icon, so you can be assured that you’re making the right choice for your children.

No one wants to be constantly worried about finding inconvenient healthy food, or to take up valuable luggage space packing all of their meals in advance. Companies making healthy eating options more convenient and affordable will give conscientious eaters the chance to enjoy a relaxing vacation without taking home extra pounds as a souvenir.
