Basic Volleyball Rules For Beach Volleyball

Beach volleyball rules are very similar to indoor volleyball. The main goal of volleyball, either beach or indoor, is to touch the opponents team ground court with the ball.

The big differences between sand and indoor are the following:
– The team is formed by two players at sand; indoor is formed by six players
– The surface at beach is the sand.
– If the blocking player touches the ball there are two hits left for beach volley. For indoor volley the blocking is not counting remaining three hits.
– Pushing the ball over the net into the other team court is forbidden in beach volleyball. An open hand tip ball is considered in sand volleyball a carried one.

The beach volleyball court dimensions are different. The sand volley court measures 26.25 feet by 52.5 feet (8.00 m × 16.00 m), while indoor volleyball court dimensions are 29.52 feet by 59.05 feet (9.00 m × 18.00 m).

There are no substitutions in beach volleyball. Most of the players play the game barefoot, while indoor volleyball players have the obligation to play with volleyball shoes.

The winners are the players who win the first two sets. They are playing maximum three sets, while indoor players play maximum five.

In the beach volleyball court there is no three meters line restrictions.

It is legal to cross under the volleyball net as long as you do not interfere in the attempting to play the ball of the opponents.

The ball is softer and a little bit bigger than at the indoor.
