Top Cities in Sweden

Sweden became a popular travel destination worldwide since Eurovision contest took place twice in this country. Therefore, not only Europeans turned into regular visitors, but those from Asia and North-America. Sweden is rightly a cradle of Vikings’ culture, a keeper set of medieval traditions and architecture, as well as a follower of new ecofriendly technologies, which cannot but attract both common city breakers and businessmen. There are several cities, specifically the largest ones, that pull in thousands of tourists annually.

Vasteras is a typical Swedish city, an image of ancient Vikings’ settlement. Among local major sightseeing spots there is an old cathedral dated back to the 12th century. In 1694 the tower was added, traditionally decorated with Swedish crown. On the square in front of the cathedral the attention is usually paid to bronze statues of Carl Milles and Bishop Johannes Rudbekius. Nearby it is hard not to notice Bishop’s Castle. The charm of bygone years is kept in Chyurkbaken area, with wooden houses and the layout of the 19th century, much enjoyed by local artists. Vasteras castle is one more memory of the Middle Ages: nowadays it is a local museum, but originally it was a residence of local rulers and then a prison.

Malmö is recognized as one of the most environmentally friendly cities in the world, regularly honored and awarded in Europe. Regardless of numerous historic sightseeing spots, mostly it attracts with architect novelties and green technologies’ wonders. It is also famous in Sweden for Øresund Bridge, which connects Malmö and Copenhagen. The trip takes only 20 minutes.

Göteborg is the second biggest city in Sweden, which is often called “The Western Gates”. The popularity of Göteborg is usually associated with the biggest animation park in the country (30 amusement rides in total), big sport arenas and numerous cultural events. Mostly the city of Göteborg can boast of beach areas ten minutes away from the suburbs, art museums that host canvases of well-known artists if the 19th century and Neoclassic architecture in the downtown.

Thanks to the university established in the city Uppsala is popular among foreign students and, of course, soon-to-be students. In addition, it is a green city, embraced by lots of parks, gardens and green zones. Uppsala has 17 historic and scientific museums at tourists’ disposal, including the museum of world-famous biologist Carl von Linne (Linnemuseet), four medieval castles and lots of monuments of the past. In particular, the main Uppsala castle welcomes 30 thousand students and simultaneously is a must-see site around, being founded in the 16th century.
