Top Three Tourist Attractions of Switzerland

Founded in the 13th Century by the joining of 3 states, Switzerland has come a long way to become one of the main countries in the international maps. The country mainly consists of mountainous terrains and the majestic Swiss Alps make up for more than 60% of the land. As a result, the Switzerland is home to a few of the most beautiful locales in the world. While the country’s rise to fame came from its banking systems, tourism has also played an enormous part in enhancing its appeal. Switzerland is also known as a summer and winter sports paradise and evokes all sorts of drama and romance which is associated with mountain life. One of the most popular as well as the largest cities of Switzerland is Zurich. Known as a major international banking centre, the city also boasts of more than 100 galleries and 50 museums, the largest rave party in all of Europe known as the Street Parade and a thriving nightlife. 1. The Chateau de Chillon

The Chateau de Chillon was built way back in the 11th Century and is located just 3 kms east of Montreux on the shores of Lake Geneva. The Chillon Castle is popular as the best and the most preserved castles in all of Switzerland and offers sights which simply bamboozle the tourists. The castle consists of 100 buildings, 3 courtyards and 4 magnificent halls which offer spellbinding views of the Lake Geneva. The castle also offers great views from each of its windows of flower filled courtyards, a view of the snowy mountains or of the Lake Geneva. One can also embark on a guided tour through the ancient rooms or the dungeons of the castle which were made immortal in Lord Byron’s poem “The Prisoner of Chillon”.

2. Matterhorn

The Matterhorn is another popular tourist attraction of Switzerland and is popularly known as the “Z’horu” in the local dialects. The Matterhorn is situated at 4478 m and is the most famous and spectacular peaks of The Alps and Switzerland. The Matterhorn is an extremely impressive mountain and it also offers exquisite views of the surrounding mountains. Combined with the Glacier Express and Jungraujoch, the place is one of the most photographed areas of the region.

3. The Rhine Falls

The Rhine Falls is located in Neuhausen on the border of Germany. The falls are popular as the largest waterfall in all of Europe and offers visitors with a glorious spectacle of 700 m3 of water rushing over the cliffs in each second. Tourists can also opt to go for boating in the falls up to the rocks located in the centre of the stream. These rocks can be climbed and the views from the top of these rocks are simply splendid. One can also take the staircase to go right up to the falls to enjoy the sensation of water crashing on the rocks. The waterfalls also offer a great spectacle at night due to the hidden spotlights which illuminate the falls at night.
