Natural ingredients are mild and widely used, but before applying an ingredient to the whole face, it is a good idea to perform a test. For a basic face mask, grind the oatmeal for a bit in a food processor. Add water to create a paste, then apply to the face and let it sit for a few minutes.

In a small bowl, mix two tablespoons of flax seeds and just enough water to cover them. The seeds should swell and the water should transform into a gelatinous texture. This gel should be spread over the face and be allowed to sit until it is dry. The mask should be rinsed off with tepid water and patted dry.

Egg whites can be soothing and leave the skin glowing. Whip the egg whites, apply to the skin, and leave them on until they are dry. Rinse the egg whites off and pat the face dry. Natural clay face masks draw out impurities. The clay can be found in a cosmetics section of a natural foods store. Mix with water and apply to the face, but not near the eyes. Allow it to dry and rinse.

One of the best ingredients for face masks is Shea butter. Natural Shea butter can be applied directly to the face. However, if money is not an issue, investing in specially formulated natural face masks with Shea butter will provide the most benefits to the skin.
