How to Make Your Lipstick Last Longer

There is nothing worse than spending ages getting ready, putting loads of effort into your appearance, only to find your efforts have not lasted and an hour later you need to touch-up and reapply your makeup. Lipstick is one of the worst culprits for a lack of staying power so we have sought out some top tips on how to make your lipstick last longer.

Of course, we have all been sucked into buying top of the range lipsticks that claim to be ‘even longer-lasting’ but too many of us have been left disappointed when the lipstick has not lived up to its claims. So, when forking out double figures for a lipstick is not an option, here are some things you can do to try and make that lipstick last as long as possible.

One of the first tips to make your lipstick last longer is to ensure your lips are soft and smooth to start with. If your lips are dry and chapped, lipstick will not adhere very well to them. Always carry around a lip balm with you and try exfoliating with a toothbrush to remove any dead skin.

Secondly, put something on your lips before the lipstick to help it cling to them – try foundation, concealer, powder or even talc. Then apply a thin layer of powder after your first layer of lipstick followed by a second layer of lipstick on top. Alternatively you could try a lip primer which can help prevent the lipstick from smudging or feathering and help make your lipsticks last longer too.

Thirdly, you could try using a lip brush to apply the lipstick. Applying thin layers means the lipstick is more likely to stick to your lips because it is drier than the tube itself.

Another trick worth trying is a lip pencil. Try applying it not only to the outside of your lips but colouring in your lips with the pencil as well to create a bolder, longer-lasting look.

Finally, once the lipstick is on, make a conscious effort not to lick your lips, yes we know some may find it hard but always check on it after you have had anything to eat or drink.

Now you know all the tricks to making your lipstick last longer, you can enjoy your New Year’s Eve without having to worry about topping up your lipstick every now and then.
