Hot Expat Destinations in 2014

Do you find yourself relentlessly complaining about your home country, the lack of money you earn, the high tax rate, and so on? Maybe it’s time for a change. Challenge yourself by moving abroad!

But where to? According to sixth edition of HSBC’s Expat Explorer Survey which involves more than 7,000 expats, five out of the top 10 destinations can be found in Asia, making the continent the most hospitable region in the world in which to relocate. Let’s check out our top picks of hot countries you should move into in 2014.

China

According to criteria including economics, experience, and raising children, China comes out on top with high scores in economics and experience. Despite faring poorly in the field of raising children, expats in China report high salaries and better quality of life than in their home countries. Up until recently, China may have been perceived as a challenging country for expats to enter, but it is becoming less so; thanks to significant changes in major cities like Beijing and Shanghai which are considered very cosmopolitan.

Thailand

According to the same survey, the best place for reinventing yourself is Thailand. Although China still ranks higher in terms of economic opportunities, Thailand ranks the highest in the world in terms of experience. Compared to the global average of 57 percent, 76 percent of expats living in Thailand said it was easy to make friends in their new home. Expats living in Thailand also enjoy the best social life (59 percent) compared to foreigners in other countries. Now you know where to go to have fun as an expat.

Singapore

Having been popular as an expat destination, Singapore still ranked third in the overall score (economics, experience and raising children). With well-established transportation system, low crime rate and relatively high standard of living, it’s no wonder that many expats favor Singapore. Amongst its Asian neighbors, Singapore topped the chart when it comes to raising children. So, if you’re considering to move with your family, Singapore might be a great option.

Indonesia

With its expanding economy, friendly people and beautiful sceneries, Indonesia ranked twelfth in the world with economics and experience criteria. For economics criteria, Indonesia ranked the third amongst its Asian neighbors; even ranked higher than Singapore. This is due to the fact that Indonesia’s economy is expanding rapidly so expats could reap the benefits. The standard of living might not be as high as Singapore or other more developed countries, but you will surely have a great time in Indonesia! Just keep an open mind and enjoy all sorts of interesting things that are happening around you.
