Egypt: Beyond the pyramids and the Nile

So you thought that an Egyptian sojourn is all about the pyramids and the Nile? Then you thought wrong. Of course, the pyramids and the river Nile are iconic and historic. It would be fair to declare that they are the epicenter of Egyptian tourism. But beyond these attractions, the country has plenty more to offer. There are several Egypt tourist places which can be explored. All you need is time, and it can be said that no matter how much time you invest over this trip, you will always fall short of it and you shall always return home with a heavy heart and with a promise to come back again.

Cairo is one of the most popular destinations in the country. It is not only the capital city but has some of the best Egypt tourist attractions. Talk of the Egyptian Museum and you will know what you are missing if you are not visiting it! It is not an ordinary museum with ordinary historic artifacts. It is the residential address of the mummies including the one of Tutankhamen, that young and famous Pharaoh whose death and life has always triggered debates and controversies. The museum also houses old coins, papyrus and plenty of arms and jewelry which belonged to the Pharaohs reigning during the BC era.

Flipping through any blog or good guide book can fill you with plenty of  Egypt travel information so that you can include most of the must-visit attractions in your program. Luxor is another town which always makes a backpacker rub his hands in glee. At the behemoth Luxor Temple, it is your eyeball which will keep popping out in delight and when you are enjoying a flight on one of those hot air balloons, then it will be your heart which will be on the verge of spilling out of your mouth. Luxor is not just historic but is amazingly adventurous. It also houses the Karnak Temple and the Valley of the Kings which serve as coveted Egypt tourist attractions. While the former is a historic temple having a holier-than-thou reputation, the latter is a piece of land which is strewn with tombs of the dead Pharaohs. The region may give you a bit of a spook, but the missing heartbeats and the flow of adrenaline will be every bit worthy of your expenses.

Aswan has also been one of the most sought-after Egypt tourist places. It has limited number of attractions and even a day trip to this city can give you bucketfuls of surprises and pleasures. The Aswan High Dam and the Nubian Museum are its major attractions, though there are plenty other tidbits waiting to be discovered by a casual rambler.

Then there is Alexandria which has some interesting places like the Pompey’s Pillar and the Alexandria National Museum. If you get tired of an overdose of history, then the beach town of Sharm el Sheikh is always there with its dose of beaches, shacks, corals and underwater experiences.
