Choosing a Lipstick Texture

Now that you know what shade, most flatters your skin’s undertones, your next obstacle is finding a texture that you like. There are three textures to lipsticks; matte, creamy and glossy.

Matte Lipstick: Matte lipstick formulas are high in color and non-glossy. These lipsticks offer the most coverage. The feel of these lipsticks is soft and velvet-like. For the perfect matte pout, grab a lip brush and add concealer to it. Apply concelear around the outside of your lips, and then apply your lipstick. With regards to matte lipsticks, it is a matter of preference. Some people find them too drying. It sometimes helps to add a matte moisture balm before hand in order to prevent that dry effect. You do have to keep in mind, that one of the reasons that this lipstick lasts longer than hours is because of the lack of moisture, therefore adding any added moisture base will also decrease the reapplication. Matte lipsticks are a big trend for this winter, especially those in bright colors. They are a wonderful way to dress up any look, and go well from day to night.

Creamy Lipstick: Creamy formulas are great because they are full of moisturizing emollients like shea butter. These are great during the winter months, when your lips tend to get a bit dry! You can find some creamy formulas that offer you a matte finish, which is truly the perfect combination of color and feel. These lipsticks do not last as long as the matte formulas. The moisture emollients create a color that fades off more easily as you drink, or simply touch your lips to one another. Touch-ups are usually needed every hour. Creamy formulas glide onto the lips smoothly, yet it is recommended to use a lip brush in order to get the corners of your lips. Creamy lipsticks are great for both daytime and nighttime wear. The color is a true color that looks great for any occasion.

Glossy Lipstick: Glossy lipsticks are created with a formula that is heavy in moisture emollients and shea butter and light on pigment. This means you will get a lot of shine (like with a gloss) but very light coverage color. Glossy lipsticks are highly appealing as they reflect a ton of light and look extremely pretty. Some are formulated with ingredients such as crushed pearls to create an iridescent effect). However, the downside is they need continuous re-application. This formula is a daytime formula, as it is super sheer!

Lipstick is made to be a fun detail of your make-up. So play with all these textures and find your favorites for day, night or the holidays.
