What to Consider When Buying Bathrobes

Bathrobes are one of the items that everyone in the home should own. They are convenient, comfortable and provide you with something warm to wrap around yourself on a cold and wet night. These items come in various sizes, lengths and materials, which is why you need to decide what you will use your robe for before making any decisions and making a purchase.

One of the first things you will want to determine is the size you will need. You want the bathrobe to wrap around you, cocooning you in comfort and luxury. Depending on where you are buying from you will find the sizes displayed in UK sizes or small, medium and large. It’s advisable to buy one size bigger than you would normally use, this gives you the ability to wrap your robe around yourself with space to spare.

With size determined you now need to look at the length. Bathrobes come in a choice of lengths from ankle to calf to knee. The most common length is calf length, which is half way between knee and ankle. These aren’t too long and provide you with the snug feeling you are looking for, this length is ideal for walking back from the pool, getting out of a bath, or throwing on over your pyjamas when watching television on a colder night.

The biggest decision you will have to make when buying bathrobes is what material to choose. While the majority of robes are made from one hundred percent cotton, there is no shortage of choices available. Waffle is a common choice, especially for the summer season. This is the material used by most hotels and spas. It is a breathable material which is absorbent and light weight.

Another popular choice is terry cloth. Don’t be fooled, most terry robes are also made from one hundred percent cotton. This is highly absorbent, which makes it a great choice if you’re looking for a robe to wear when you’re heading back inside from the pool or to use when taking a bath or shower.

Consider velour if you’re looking for that plush and luxurious feel. Velour is warm, soft and very lightweight. This is the perfect choice when looking for a bathrobe you can wear when curled up on the sofa at night. It’s very soft and luxurious and a wonderful addition to your comfort collection.

Silk and satin aren’t as popular as the cotton options available. While these are luxurious and soft, they don’t offer the same warmth and absorbency you will find when you choose the cotton options. Silk and satin robes are perfect for the summer months, whether you just want something to wrap around yourself when you get out of the shower or while you make your morning cup of coffee.

Try and choose cotton wherever possible. If none of the options are appealing and you’re looking for a more luxurious bathrobe, consider Egyptian cotton. While Egyptian cotton may be slightly more expensive, it’s comfortable, luxurious and can be worn around the home or pool.

Choose a colour that allows your personality to shine through. You don’t have to go for white unless you’re purchasing for your spa or hotel. Bathrobes come in a wide range of colours and patterns, enabling you to choose the one you feel is the best match for you and what you want to use it for.

Always ensure you read the information provided on the website, if you’re buying your bathrobe online. This information can tell you everything you need to know. Try and choose one hundred percent cotton where possible and ensure you check the item for quality on arrival at your door.
