The Benefits of Potatoes for Skin Care

One of our habitual foods, the potato (Solanum tuberosum), is rich in minerals and vitamins, substantial fatty acids and other healthful stuff.

The potato is famous for its anti-aging, lightening, brightening, nourishing, moistening, revitalizing and anti-inflammatory properties that can be of benefit to skin especially dry, stressed-out and aging.

Due to its ingredients (Vitamin C, asporassium, calcium, zinc, magnesium etc), a potato helps to actuate collagen as well as elastin synthesis and a necessary turnover of cells. This will lead to young-like and toned complexion.

The skin of the potato intensifies sensitive cellular tissues. Both skin and flesh of the potato are rich in folate, riboflavin, copper, niacin, iron, assorted nutrients. The potato is considered to be a great softening agent that can help to weaken inflammation.

Potato is rich in enzymes, farina, sugars and Vitamin C. Due to these characteristics it can delicately desquamate the skin, peel off stored dead cells. There are several natural conserving agents that will resist the process of oxidation: sugar, salt, lemon juice, vinegar, oil (especially olive oil), Vitamin E, different spices, for example, rosemary, cloves, thyme, sage and oregano.

The final fruity pulp is considered to be a perfect mask that will help to lift and shine the completion, lessen the emergence of age spots, deep-set fine lines and superpigmentation. You can apply the mixture by putting a butter muslin with it or by making cataplasm and massage over the affected area of the skin.

If you want to create an individual skin treatment, you may combine the grated pulp of potato with any natural ingredient that you like or you have at hand in the refrigerator or closet. The pulp with honey is one of possible combinations. Honey has antibacterial and moistening properties and it will do for sensitive skin. Such combination will help to cure the existing patches and to prevent the appearance of spots from now on if applied regularly.

The effective remedy is the combination of the potato pulp and fresh cucumber owing to its hydrating, constringent and nourishing qualities. It is better to prepare cucumber the same way as potato pulp but do not use its peel unless it is “English” cucumber.

If you want to improve your amalgam, you can add a teaspoon of milk and lemon juice. Lemon is a good remedy for lusterless skin that helps to neutralize toxicants and to astringe skin. Milk is rich in lactic acid, enzyme that is why it peels off the dead cells.

You can prepare a perfect face wash. You need to squeeze a juice out of raw potatoes, leave it in the refrigerator for half an hour; then apply the cosmetic with a cotton disc or cloth and rinse it with water. Owing to the high content of Vitamin C, sulphur, choline, potassium and phosphorus, potato juice is considered to be a remedy for acnes and mature skin, the redundancy of bacteria, oil and dirt. After using this cleanser your skin will feel smooth and look rejuvenated and fresh.

If you want to get rid of dark areas under your eyes, puffiness, fatigue, you need to put a cold compress with the grated or sliced potato folded in gauze over your eyes and keep it for half an hour.
