Get instant bright eyes with barely-there mascara

We all know no makeup makeup often requires well, a lot of makeup. But if you’re truly looking to go bare-faced but still want your eyes to pop, try this trick.

Nigel Stanislaus, Maybelline New York’s Makeup Director says the key to a natural-looking eye-opening mascara application is to use a softer hue and forget everything you know about flourishing a wand. Instead, he places the mascara into roots of the lash line – no flicking, no brushing. The technique focuses on filling in the little gaps between each lash, so the results look more like eyeliner than full-on voluminous lashes.

Here’s how:

1. Load up the wand with a soft shade of mascara such as brown or black/brown. Make sure the tip of the brush is coated.

2. Like you’re holding a pen, point the tip of the wand directly on the roots of clean lashes. In a ‘dotting’ motion, coat the roots with mascara. Be careful to not carry it too far long the lashes– leaving the lash tips bare will ensure you look fresh faced.

3. Repeat on each side until the desired look is achieved. Eyes should look defined and the base of the lashes thick.
