Egyptian cinema’s iconic actress Mariam Fakhr Eddine dies aged 81

Egyptian actress Mariam Fakhr Eddine died early Monday in Maadi’s military hospital in Cairo.

Eddine, 81, was having surgery to remove blood clots in the brain when her health deteriorated, reported state run-news agency MENA.

Born in 1933 to an Egyptian father and a Hungarian mother, the actress was an iconic beauty in Egypt’s cinema industry in the 1950s and 1960s.

She is mostly known for her role as Princess Inji in the 1958 classical movie Rudda Qalbi (Back Again). The movie gained popularity as it was among the first to address the ouster of Egypt’s last King Farouk at the hands of the military and the social changes it brought about.
