Discover Historic Treasures in Prague’s Old Town

When you arrive in Prague, airport to city transfers are simple to arrange and, once you’ve settled in, your very first stop should be the Old Town. This ancient sector of the city is where many of the most important highlights are found, and it is the perfect place to get lost in the winding streets and soak up the wonderful atmosphere. Here are some of the main highlights to enjoy during your time here.

Old Town Hall

The Old Town Hall was founded as far back as 1338. It consists of a collection of medieval buildings, along with a Gothic tower, which houses the Astronomical Clock. As well as the tourist information service, you will also find a number of art exhibitions inside. You can also visit the House at the Minute, where Franz Kafka once lived, and arrange to go on a guided tour to see the council chamber, the chapel and the cellars.

The Astronomical Clock

If you see a crowd gathering at the Old Town Hall on the hour, it’s because they have come to watch the Astronomical Clock strike. This is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city, and you may first pass by it on your Prague airport to city transfer to your accommodation. The mechanical performance of the clock lasts for less than a minute, but it is well worth seeing.

The Powder Gate

This 65-metre gate (with a tower above the arch) dates back to 1475. Inside, you will find exhibitions of various medieval items including weapons, and you can also make your way to the top to enjoy excellent views over the city. It was originally built as a ceremonial entrance, but was never finished. It was rebuilt in the 19th century in its current style.

The Jewish Museum

The six monuments of the Jewish Museum are well worth exploring. They include the Pinkas Synagogue, the Ceremonial Hall, the Klaus Synagogue, the Spanish Synagogue, the Maisel Synagogue and the Old Jewish Cemetery. The museum was formed in 1906 to preserve these important monuments, and one ticket will cover you to see them all. You can also pay extra and visit the Old-New Synagogue.

Church of Our Lady Before Tyn

The Gothic spires of this church can be seen far and wide. You can take your time to admire the exterior and then head inside to see the Baroque interior and the large altar. Concerts are sometimes held here, so make sure you ask the driver of your Prague airport to city transfer for some insider information.

Discover the Historic City

This wonderful city has numerous historic attractions to discover, but the best of them are to be found in the Old Town. After you have booked your Prague airport to city transfer and are ready to go exploring, head to the Old Town and see the above highlights to discover more about this fascinating city.
